A Mid-Year Resolution

More reading books - Less time on the Interwebs.

I miss reading.  I used to read all the time.  I love it - I will read just about anything I can get my hands on.  Or, as I said, I used to.  I seem to spend all of my free time now pouring over wedding and baking blogs and working on wedding-related projects.  I love you, Internet Friends, but you're sucking all my time away.  My new goal is to read at least one book per month.  In an effort to be budget-friendly and green, this also means I will be finding my local library.  The Fiance's mother is a librarian - I have no excuse.

First of all, I need to finish the book I am currently stuck on:

Yes, I am really late to the game here, and just now reading the Twilight books.  I love vampire stuff, so this is a shock, but I just can't get into it.  It's just so whiny.  I can't quite get over the feeling of waiting for Buffy the Vampire Slayer to burst out of the background and stake Edward to sparkley dust.  But I am more than halfway through and now it's just a matter of principle.  Besides, I have to finish it before I go see the movie (and The Fiance reallllllllly wants to see it.  Seriously.)

I have lots of books sitting on my shelves to get through, like Eat Pray Love and Julie and Julia, but of course I had to get some fresh blood in there to keep me going.

Mmmmmm don't you just love the smell of bookstores?  It's my favorite smell ever.  What are you reading right now?  Any recommendations for a born-again bookworm?

  1. I finally coughed up $6 to buy a paperback copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I put it on hold on the public library website and found out I was #394 in line!

I'm actually a librarian too, and love to support the public library, but enough is enough! :-)

  2. I love reading. Always did. I used to walk class to class with my nose in a book. I'd give up my ipod before I gave up books during my commute. And REAL books - none of this Kindle stuff. I go back & forth between heavy stuff and fluff. I just finished "The Kids Are All Right" - Liz Welch (actually it was written by all 4 Welch kids)- it's the true story of their childhood. Devastating.

Right now - I'm reading sTORI Telling. Yep. That's right. ;)

I can't get into the Larson books for some reason so let us know how you like them?

  3. I love the smell of bookstores - I just like to go to Barnes and Noble and sit there with a coffee. Amazing.

  6. Eclipse took me forever to read too! It was my least favorite of the whole series.

Prep is definitely a good suggestion - I read it a few years ago and loved it.

I just finished reading "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosnay a few weeks ago. I did a review of it on my blog! Really good, but heavy subject matter, so don't read it if you're in the mood for a light, fluffy summer read.

    P.S. I love libraries :)

  8. For some reason, I'm really into reading books about relationships. My relationship with my groom is perfect in my eyes, but I just like to read about them. The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, which was a Weddingbee reading club book, is my favorite.

  9. I LOVE bookstores. I don't read as much as I should, but I still do. I read Eat, Pray, Love and it was wonderful. I just finished In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan and now am reading Real Food by Nina Planck.

    Woo for reading!

  10. I didn't realize Diana Gabaldon had a new book out. I started reading her "Outlander" series years ago and stopped mid-way through the 5th book. Books > Internet :)
