Brunette curse.

I think my hair rejects colors that are not brown and dark brown, unless you count that six month time period when I was convinced that bleach blond chunky highlights were flattering.

This is me as a red head:

For realsies. It's red in there. We (meaning my stylist) think that the red will come out more after a few days. Otherwise, next time I'm in the chair, we're going to get ... Aggressive. Scary aggressive.  In the meantime, I have gotten over my primal fear of dying my hair (which is why we didn't get all Joan Holloway) and I love the depth it has now, subtle or not.  While I love my natural color and being a brunette, this really livened it up - at least I think so.

But I still really want to be a red head. Brunette sponge hair be damned.

I do like my new highlights-that-are-my-real-color thing. I think that means I like my low-lights? Honestly, I am remedial when it comes to hair color. It's not reddddd red, but I like it. And I looooove the cut, but that's to be expected. She always makes my hair fantastic and makes me wish i could get a blow-out everyday. How can you complain about someone making your hair super shiny, swingy, smooth, and pretty? I'll take those things over red-red any day.

For the next eight weeks, anyway.

  1. I really like your hair style. I've been debating for a long time now if I want to go short like that or leave my hair long. I like it both ways. Your color looks great too!

  2. DOes your hair have any red tones in it? Mine does and my stylist tells me to stay away unless i'm going for the Annie look. It should either lighten or loose its color. either way i love the cut!

  3. LOVE, love love the cut! I've been thinking of chopping my hair ever since my wedding, but I'm too chicken & just can't pull the trigger. Between you & Diana (theworldaroundher) cutting your hair this week, you've both really got me thinking!!

  4. I LOVE your cut! I'm also a brunette and I also recently died my hair red, but not RED red and in the wrong light (or no light) it looks almost the same color. Basically, I feel like we're hair color twins ;-)

  5. Adore your haircut. Kinda copied you, too, recently. But I say... GO REDDER!!

I have had to dye my hair since age 14, the grey was already a distraction. I started playing with color with the cellaphane non-permanent options, but... I love the red. At this point, I have a bit more white, not just grey, so those end up really red. I used to mix my own Wella dyes (my mom taught me to dye my own hair), but then I realized it was getting cheaper- and my hair didn't smell so chemically- using packaged boxes. My absolute favorite hair color is 51 + 56 (50% of each, one brown and one red shade) of the L'Oreal Feria dye. When I want less red, like in May/June when sun and natural bleaching could overdo the brightness before its time to redye, I do 3/4 or 2/3 of the brown, the rest of the red. I'll have to give up the red at some point when I go really white, it won't look good anymore, but 34 is much too young to have as much as I have show- it's more than my mom shows! I do notice that the redder it is, the more I gravitate to a certain group of colors from my closet, and fewer of the blues, more of the greens, and my most flattering makeup colors change, too. -hamsterish
